Description
Aviation book
This ambitious book brings together the stories of the great fighting aircraft of the Second World War and full - colour representations of these same aircraft in their combat roles/In his meticulous research, the author found that each action always had a high point, and the artist has taken that moment and re - created it on canvas in a stunningly realistic and authentic rendering that tells us much more about planes and men and war than any static photograph could possibly accomplish. Three years in the making, this unique book is a tribute to the designers, builders, pilots and crewmen of the magnificent machines they were privileged to be associated with.
Glenn B. Bavousett ( 1926 - 1991 ) was born in Fort Worth ( Texas, United States ). He always had a yearning to fly, but when he joined the Navy during the Second World War ( at the age of seventeen ), he found that they needed radarmen more than aerial radiomen - gunners, which he wanted to be. He saw most of the Pacific battle sites, including D - Day landings during the invasions of Leyte and Linguyen Gulf in the Philippines and at Okinawa.
After the war, he volunteered for the atomic tests at Bikini, and was a supervisor aboard one of the observation ships. After the tests, Glenn B. Bavousett returned to Texas, married, and began a family. Then, he took part in the Korean War aboard the cruiser Rochester, and saw action along the east coast of Korea. Afterwards, he returned to the United States and was then transferred to destroyer duty. When his tour was up he again returned to Texas, this time to stay with his wife and their three sons. He entered art school, where it was discovered he had an especial talent for mechanical subjects.
Glenn B. Bavousett became a technical illustrator for Consolidated Aircraft ( now General Dynamics ) and, later, Bell Helicopter. Soon after, he started a technical publication business that assisted the aircraft and electronics industry in preparing technical literature for their customers. In 1971 he retired to do something that had been building up inside him for some time - the creation of a gallery of oil paintings of the Second World War aircraft in combat. Glenn B. Bavousett had published the two following books as well : Combat aircraft of World War Two ( 1989 ) and More World War II aircraft in combat, 47 famous warplanes depicted in raging conflict ( 1981 ).
