On 16 September 1946 , Alitalia - Aerolinee Internazionali Italiane was founded in Rome with entirely private capital. It adopted a logo featuring a winged arrow. It became operational on 5 May 1947 with its first civil aircraft, a three-engined Fiat G.
On 14 October 2021, after 74 years, Italy's state-owned airline Alitalia disappeared as a result of a debt of more than 11 billion euros. ITA Airways, which rose from the ashes of Alitalia, will take over from Alitalia.
