Description

Aviation book
This book is a graphic pictorial history of the aircraft used by the United States Marine Corps from 1914 to 1959. Through the use of 490 different photographs it presents a detailed and accurate visual image of the evolution of Marine Corps aviation. In a new and unique manner it presents the aircraft by their date of use, with each page dated at the top for quick and easy reference. In addition to the carefully selected photographs, which show the markings of as many Marine Corps Squadrons as it was possible to obtain, detailed captions add to the reader's knowledge of the aircraft illustrated. This thorough compilation of photographs and information is the result of 23 years of research and is now being published for the first time.

William T. Larkins ( March 1922 ) was born in Bakersfield ( California, United States ). He has been an aviation photographer and writer since his first photograph was published in 1936. A unique combination of a degree in English and Philosophy from the University of San Francisco, and a life - long interest in aviation, has resulted in several hundred published photos or articles in aviation magazines and books.
After graduation from the A.A.F. Photography School in 1943 he spent three years in aircraft recognition training, including service in H.Q. A.A.F. Subsequent military service was spent in the Intelligence section of the Air Force Reserve and as a Photographic Officer in the Air National Guard. He is, today, recognized as one of the nation's leading authorities on aircraft history. Author of the books The Ford Story ; A Pictorial History of the Ford Tri - Motor 1927 - 1957 and U.S. NAVY AIRCRAFT 1921 - 1941, and founding editor of the American Aviation Historical Society Journal, he is well known for his dedication to detailed historical research.
