Description
Peter Kilduff has become known primarily as a World War I aviation historian. This volume, however, marks his first major work in US naval aviation history and reflects an abiding interest in maritime air power that goes back two decades to his military service aboard the aircraft carrier USS Lake Champlain (CVS-39).
Active in many phases of aviation historical research, Mr Kilduff has three books on World War I aviation to his credit and, since 1968, has been an editor of the Society of World War I Aero Historians' quarterly publication, The Cross & Cockade Journal. He has also prepared three issues of Air Extra magazine and contributed articles to Air International, Aircraft Illustrated, Naval Aviation News and the Wings weekly encyclopedia of aviation series.
As part of his growing interest in US naval aviation history, since 1977 he has served as contributing editor of The Hook, the quarterly publication of the American naval air proponent group known as the Tailhook Association. He is also a member of the American Aviation Historical Society, the Association of Naval Aviation, and Cross & Cockade (Great Britain). Also active in historic preservation in the US, Peter Kilduff holds a gubernatorial appointment to the Connecticut Historical Commission. He and his wife and three children live in a century-old house that is, appropriately enough for an aviation historian, across the street from the site of the first powered flight in the state of Connecticut.
