Description

Il s'agit d'une peinture à l'huile originale sur toile qui représente une paire de Hawker Harts du 57ème escadron, R.A.F., volant au-dessus des nuages (1931 - 1936).

This is a three - quarter front view of a pair of Hawker Harts of No. 57 Squadron, R.A.F., between 1931 and 1936. The Hawker Hart was a British two - seater biplane light bomber aircraft of the Royal Air Force. It was designed during the 1920's by Sydney Camm and manufactured by Hawker Aircraft. The Hart was a prominent British aircraft in the inter - war period, but was obsolete and already side - lined for newer monoplane aircraft designs by the start of the Second World War, playing only minor roles in the conflict before being retired.
No. 57 Squadron was re - formed at Netheravon ( Salisbury Plain, Wiltshire, England ) on October 20, 1931, equipped with the very Hawker Hart. It moved to R.A.F. Upper Heyford ( Oxfordshire, England ) on September 5th, 1932. In 1933, the Squadron took part in the annual R.A.F. Air Display at Hendon ( North London, England ), and together with No.'s 18 and 33 Squadrons, demonstrated a formation take - off by a three - Squadron light bomber wing, repeating this display ( this time in conjunction with No.'s 15 and 18 Squadrons ) at the 1935 show. Another highlight was participation in the Royal Review of the R.A.F. by King George V at R.A.F. Mildenhall ( Suffolk, England ) and R.A.F. Duxford ( Cambridgeshire, England ) on July 6th, 1935.
The Squadron started to receive the Hawker Hind, an improved development of the Hart, in March 1936, replacing the Hart by May 1936.
