Description

Officially credited with 32 enemy aircraft destroyed, Lt-Colonel Goodson ranks as one of the leading flying aces of World War II.

Having survived the sinking of the SS Athenia, torpedoed a few hours after war was declared, he completed his flying training and arrived in England to join the RAF's 133rd Eagle Squadron and became a fighter pilot.

After Pearl Harbor, Goodson was transferred to the US Air Force with the Fourth Fighter Group, which successively flew Spitfires, Thunderbolts and Mustangs.

Though shot down and taken prisoner towards the end of the War, Colonel Goodson was one of the most famous squadron commanders in the Eighth Air Force, and this is a vivid and memorable account of the triumphs and dangers of an outstanding career.
