The Story of the CIA's Secret Airlines.
In the years after World War II – throughout the Cold War and into the seventies – the CIA possessed a little-known auxiliary : a network of civil airlines, owned wholly or partly (but clandestinely) by the US Government. Either under their ownership or at their disposal they eventually had more aircraft than any other compagny anywhere, they were collectively known as Air America. Christopher Robbins has travelled widely and spoken to a great many of the pilots, piecing together his account of their bizarre, often dangerous and sometimes comics exploits in several countries. Christopher Robbins (1946 – 2012) was a British writer and journalist. He is best known for his bestseller Air America, a non-fiction book which was made into a film in 1990.
