Description
Swedish military aviation began in 1911, when the Navy received a Blériot XI built by Hjalmar Nyrop. The Naval Aviation Service was formally established on 30 July 1915. Army aviation started in July 1912 as the Aviation Section of the Signal Corps. On 1 June 1916 this became the Aircraft Company of the Signal Corps. The naval and army components were finally merged into the Royal Swedish Air Force on 1 July 1926, and this title is still in effect.
