Description

A suspense-packed drama of human valor and high-tech military prowess.

It is the summer of 1995. Star Wars satellites are up, and the Russians want them down. The Strategic Defense Initiative has shifted the balance of power decidedly to the West, and the Soviets are desperate to restore the status quo—so desperate that they are willing to run the risk of triggering World War III.

To the surprise of Washington's intelligence apparatus, the Kremlin has developed a new ground-based laser weapon that they promptly use to destroy one of the satellites. Holding the remaining satellites hostage, the Soviets begin demanding unacceptable strategic concessions from the United States. Working against an impending Soviet deadline, American government and military leaders put technology and covert operations to work to determine where—if at all—an Achilles' heel can be found in the Soviets' laser system.

Faced with history's most dangerous case of brinksmanship to date, the Pentagon bets all its chips on Project Mongoose—an ambitious plan that is bold in concept and fraught with risk, yet with just enough of a possibility of success to make it worthwhile. Two highly modified and untested jet fighters—manned by a pair of courageous USAF volunteers—are to fly from Korea, through Chinese airspace, to a target deep inside Siberia, and then north to a refueling point over the Arctic Ocean. The mission: to hit the facility housing the new laser weapon and surgically remove it without causing damage to the surrounding area—thereby reinforcing the American posture of self-defense.

Problems develop soon after Mongoose gets underway that arouse suspicion at Soviet Air Defense. Only 500 miles from their target, the American pilots are met by the first wave of Soviet MiGs. From here, Stealth Strike puts you inside the cockpit, where you will be treated to the longest, most grueling edge-of-the-seat dogfight you are ever likely to encounter.
