Description

Spitfire Sortie is an atmospheric aviation artwork by acclaimed British aviation artist Robert Taylor (1946–2024), depicting a Supermarine Spitfire Mk Vb of No. 92 Squadron RAF flying over the English countryside during the summer of 1941.

Against a magnificent backdrop of golden clouds and soft blue skies, the Spitfire captures the grace, power and determination of Britain's most celebrated wartime fighter. The distinctive RAF markings and squadron codes recall the intense operational activity that continued after the Battle of Britain.

Robert Taylor's attention to historical accuracy, aircraft detail and atmospheric lighting makes this composition particularly appealing to collectors of military aviation art and Second World War history.

The Limited Edition

Published by The Military Gallery in 2001, Spitfire Sortie was issued as a limited edition companion print associated with Robert Taylor's Wings of Glory.

The example offered here is individually numbered 33/350 and bears the artist's original pencil initials.

This is a genuine numbered collector's edition, rather than an ordinary decorative reproduction.

The print is professionally presented in a traditional dark wood-effect frame with an attractive cream-coloured mount and contrasting inner border.
