Description
The world-wide expansion of aerial application in agriculture, forestry and public health is clearly reflected by the increased attendance at our international congresses and by the number and quality of the papers presented.
Our previous congresses were held in Cranfield, England (1959); Grignon, France (1962) ; Arnhem, Netherlands (1966); so all in Europe. Canada kindly proposed to be the host country of the fourth congress, and Dr J. J. Fettes, the Canadian IAAC Liaison Offi-cer, quite rightly stated that IAAC should demonstrate its world-wide scope by stepping across the Atlantic. It is our intention to convene these international congresses at intervals of about three years in IAAC member countries.
During this time a sufficient amount of new information has accumulated to attract delegates from all four corners of the earth. On behalf of the Council of the International Agricultural Aviation Centre, I should like to express our sincere gratitude to our Canadian friends and colleagues for having organized this highly successful congress. I acknowledge in particular all the work done by Professor P. H. Southwell in his capacity as President of the congress and as editor of the proceedings of the congress. It should be appreciated that both tasks took considerable time and effort. I thank the publisher (Pudoc, Wageningen, Netherlands) for making the material ready for the printer (Veenman, Wageningen, Netherlands) and for accomplishing this task so efficiently.
The help of those mentioned, and many others besides, ensured the success of this congress, and is much appreciated. I express the hope that this book might serve to further and sound expansion of the use of aircraft to the benefit of agriculture, forestry and public health.
Dr. W.J. Maan, Director General, International Agricultural Aviation Centre , 1969.
