Description
By 1945 six years of air warfare had changed the fighter from an open-cockpit, fixed wing biplane with an engine of 250 hp into a swept-wing jet with a battery of air-to-air missiles. The Korean war saw the first jet-versus-jet dog-fighting and the birth of a faster, more powerful form of combat. This book records the early postwar changes and some fighters like the MiG-15 and the Sabre proved effective ground-attack aircraft after they ceased to be fast enough to serve as effective interceptors, and without the attrition of a major war they remained in service for over 30 years.
Modern Fighters Part 1 is the first of a series of books which will cover the entire history of aviation from its earliest beginnings to the present day.
