Description
The Mitsubishi A5M was the world's first monoplane shipboard fighter to enter service and the direct predecessor of the famous 'Zero'. This book describes the development of this important aircraft, the Navy's second modern monoplane fighter. Designed by Jiro Horikoshi, who would later be responsible for the Zero, the 'Claude' (its Allied code name) entered service in 1937 and soon saw action in China.
Fast and very manoeuvrable, the A5M remained in first-line service until 1941. Its combat history in China, and later at Pearl Harbor and in SE Asia, is related.
This book contains many previously unpublished photographs, plus full technical details, color profiles and scale plans.
