Description
The MiG-31 Foxhound long-range interceptor first flew in prototype form as the Ye-155MP in 1975 and entered production in 1979, with the first regiments becoming operational in 1982. It has also been sold to China and remains in service in significant numbers.
Yefim Gordon, the doyen of Russian aviation writers, continues to amass an outstanding archive of unpublished material. Though the MiG-31 was covered to some extent in the now out-of-print and highly sought-after Aerofax on the MiG-25/31, this book will be close to a definitive work on this important aircraft. It includes an enormous amount of newly released and acquired information and a splendid collection of over 420 mostly unpublished photos (including detailed walkaround shots), drawings, and 16 color renderings. The authoritative and revealing text includes detailed discussions of the project's background, its development, versions, service, weaponry, and comparisons with its contemporaries such as the F-14 Tomcat.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Yefim Gordon was born in 1950 in Vilnius, Lithuania, and graduated from the Kaunas Polytechnical Institute in 1972 as an engineer/electronics designer. He has been a resident of Moscow since 1973, when he began collecting photographs and books on the history of Soviet aviation as a hobby; this has since developed into a major archive. Since the 1980s, he has been a professional aviation journalist and writer, with over 50 books published on Soviet/Russian aviation in Russian, English, Polish, and Czech, as well as nearly 100 magazine features and photo reports. He is also an accomplished photographer, with countless photos published in the Western press; the current edition of Jane's All the World's Aircraft features more than 50 of his photographs.
