The Mitsubishi A6M2 Zero was a highly maneuverable and lightweight Japanese carrier-based fighter aircraft used during World War II. Introduced in 1940, it featured long range, excellent agility, and a top speed of around 331 mph. Armed with two 7.7 mm machine guns and two 20 mm cannons, the A6M2 dominated early Pacific air battles. However, its lack of armor and self-sealing fuel tanks made it vulnerable as Allied tactics and aircraft improved.
