Description
The Yakovlev Yak-1 was a legendary Soviet single-seat fighter aircraft introduced during World War II. First flown in 1940, it became the foundation for a massive family of successful combat planes. Built using a combination of wood, steel tubing, and fabric to conserve scarce strategic aluminium, the Yak-1 was lightweight, agile, and remarkably responsive in low- and medium-altitude dogfights.
