Yak-7A one of the best Soviet fighters of an initial period of Soviet-German War (1941-1945). Production of the Yak-7A began in January, 1942. The fighter differed from its predecessor Yak-7 by the number of exterior and interior changes. The possibility of performing almost all Yak-7A were equipped with photo camera. The free space of the second cockpit was used for transportation of ground personnel or different cargoes during the combat actions of the units, and also for installation of photo camera or radio equipment. Yak-7A fighter was created in short times at the base of Yak-7UTI trainer, which was well run in production. The new fighter was in urgently need because of shortage of fighters in the opening stage of Soviet-German War. The flight characteristics of the Yak-7A were practically same as of Yak-1, but the new fighter had a number of advantages in service, maintenance, and mastering for pilot training. A total of 227 Yak-7A were built between January-May, 1942.
