Description

The Hawker Typhoon was one of the most successful fighter-bombers of World War II. Designed as a high-altitude interceptor, it experienced several problems in its initial operational life. The introduction of a new 'bubble' canopy and the reliable Bristol Napier Sabre engine, along with the adoption of bombs and rockets, transformed the Typhoon into a formidable ground attack aircraft. From D-Day onwards, Typhoons were at the forefront of the Allied advance across North-West Europe, striking at enemy vehicles, tanks, troops and strong-points with rockets, bombs and four 20mm cannon.
