Description
The Hawker Tempest was developed as an improvement over the Typhoon, addressing its flaws with a new design led by Sydney Camm. First flown in 1942, it tested several engines, resulting in multiple variants. The Tempest Mk.V, powered by the Napier Sabre, saw extensive action in WWII, excelling in low-level combat. The Mk.II, with a Bristol Centaurus radial engine, was the most advanced version and the last piston-engine fighter to serve in RAF frontline units. Entering service in 1946, the Tempest II saw action during the Malayan Emergency and served mainly in the Middle and Far East before being retired in the mid-1950s.
