Description
The Supermarine Spitfire Mk.Vb was the most widely produced version of the Mk.V series, entering RAF service in early 1941. It featured key upgrades over earlier models, including two 20mm cannons relocated outward to accommodate 60-round drum magazines—though this made the wings more vulnerable to damage. The Mk.Vb was introduced to counter the improved German Bf 109F. While some Spitfires later faced range limitations, the Mk.Vb was already modified to carry a slipper tank, extending its operational reach.
