Description

The Supermarine Spitfire Mk V was one of the most widely produced and important variants of the iconic British fighter during World War II. Developed as an interim solution, it used the improved Merlin 45 engine in a strengthened Mk III airframe. The Mk VA variant was armed with eight machine guns, while the Mk VB featured two 20mm cannons and four machine guns. The Mk VC introduced a universal wing that allowed various armament and wingtip configurations, including clipped or extended wings. It saw extensive service across Europe, North Africa, Malta, and the Pacific. Used for air superiority, ground attack, and bomber escort missions, it remained in combat through 1944. Over 6,500 Mk Vs were built, making it the most produced Spitfire variant.
