Description
One of the most distinguished Aces of WWII on Spitfire fighters was Canadian pilot G.F.Beurling. During 1942-1943 the Squadron Leader G.F.Beurling was confirmed with 30 enemy aircraft destroyed, 1 shared destroyed and 9 damaged. A Canadian of Swedish parentage George Frederick Beurling was born on December 6, 1921 in Montreal. In September, 1940 G.F.Beurling came to Britain and then entered to Royal Air Force. Upon termination of training he was assigned to No 403 Squadron of Royal Canadian Air Force, however he soon transferred to No 41 Squadron RAF. Joined of maiden sorties on May 1, 1942. Beurling has shot down above La Manche a German fighter FW 190, and in two days - once more. In a structure of No 249 Squadron's Beurling has shared in repelling of German air approach on Malta, became up pilot - aces. On July 6 he was confirmed there were 15 German and Italian planes downed. On this day he was moved up to an officer rank Pilot Officer. On October, 12 G. Beurling has shot down Ju 88 and two Bf 109, having finished the score up to 28 victories, however and itself was downed, having received a wound. Beurling has returned to the service in October, 1943. On Spitfire Mk. IX fighters in a structure of No 403 and No 412 Squadrons he has achieved two victories (the last - on December 30, 1943). George Beurling was one of the most gifted pilots of the Second World War. At the same time him was distinguished of individualism and scorn for discipline. In October, 1944 he was dismissed. G. Beurling has perished May 20, 1948 in air accident. G.F.Beurling was awarded with a DFC and DSO.
