Description
The Spitfire Mk.VIII was a refined, high-performance variant developed from the Mk.VII, entering service in 1943. Powered by the two-stage supercharged Merlin 63 or 66 engine, it featured improved range, a retractable tailwheel, and strengthened airframe. Designed for operations in hotter climates, it saw extensive use in the Mediterranean and Southeast Asia. The Mk.VIII retained excellent maneuverability and was typically armed with two 20mm cannons and four .303 machine guns. It could also carry bombs for ground attack. Fast, agile, and versatile, the Mk.VIII was a favorite among experienced pilots late in the war.
