MAKE: Spad VII. ROLE: Single-seat fighter. POWERED BY: One 140 h.p. (later increased to 150h.p.) Hispano-Suiza 8A engine. PERFORMANCE: Maximum speed 119 m.p.h. at 6,500ft; service ceiling 17,500ft; endurance 2½ hours. DIMENSIONS: Wing span 25ft 8in, length 20ft 3in, height 7ft. ARMAMENT: Single Vickers machine gun. REMARKS: Designed and built by Société Pour L'Aviation et ses Dérivés the first Spad VIIs went to French squadrons in 1916. Later used by RFC and built under licence in Britain. Successfully flown by leading aces Guynemer, Dorne and Fonck. Also used by Belgian, Italian and American units.
