Description
Since German dive-bomber attacks against Royal Navy ships in the Mediterranean were proving devastating, the Admiralty requested that Hawker Aircraft Ltd. modify their successful Hurricane fighter for carrier operations. The first batch of 50 Sea Hurricanes were converted from RAF Hurricane Mk.Is. These aircraft were designated Sea Hurricane Mk.IA and entered service in early 1941. The Sea Hurricane proved to be a capable defender against Axis aircraft in the Mediterranean theater.
