Description
The Douglas SBD-5 Dauntless was the most produced version of the U.S. Navy’s famous dive bomber, entering service in 1943. It was powered by a 1,200 hp Wright R-1820-60 engine and featured improved fuel capacity and upgraded systems. The SBD-5 kept the effective dive brakes and handling of earlier models. It was armed with two forward-firing 12.7 mm machine guns, two rear 7.62 mm guns, and carried up to 1,600 lb of bombs. The SBD-5 served with the Navy, Marines, and Allied forces across the Pacific.
