Description
The Douglas SBD-3 Dauntless was a U.S. Navy dive bomber that played a key role in early WWII battles, including the Coral Sea and Midway. Introduced in 1941, the SBD-3 featured improved armor, self-sealing fuel tanks, and increased defensive armament over earlier versions. It retained the distinctive perforated dive brakes for accurate bombing. Powered by a Wright R-1820 engine, it carried up to 1,200 lb of bombs and had forward-firing and rear defensive machine guns. The SBD-3 was known for its ruggedness and precision, serving with Navy and Marine units in the Pacific Theater.
