Description
The McDonnell F-101C Voodoo was a single-seat fighter-bomber variant of the Voodoo series, developed from the earlier F-101A. Entering service in the late 1950s, it featured structural and systems upgrades to handle nuclear strike missions at high speed and low altitude. Powered by two Pratt & Whitney J57 turbojets, the F-101C could reach speeds over Mach 1.5. It had reinforced airframe components for better durability and improved avionics over the F-101A. Armament included four 20 mm cannons, with capability to carry nuclear bombs or conventional ordnance. Though only 47 units were built, the F-101C served with Tactical Air Command until replaced by more advanced aircraft in the mid-1960s.
