Description
The Macchi C.200, also known as the Saetta (Lightning), was a prominent Italian fighter aircraft during World War II. Designed by Mario Castoldi and produced by Aeronautica Macchi, the C.200 was developed in the late 1930s in response to a call from the Italian government for a modern monoplane fighter to replace the older biplanes then in service.
The Serie VII is one of the notable variants of this aircraft, reflecting ongoing improvements and adaptations during its production life.
The Macchi C.200 entered service with the Regia Aeronautica (Italian Royal Air Force) in 1939 and saw extensive action throughout World War II. It was involved in various theaters of war, including North Africa, the Mediterranean, and the Eastern Front.
Despite being underpowered compared to contemporary Allied fighters, the C.200 was highly regarded for its agility and rugged construction, which allowed it to withstand significant battle damage.
