Description
The RWD-8 was Poland’s most widely produced interwar trainer and liaison aircraft. Designed in 1931 by Wigura, Rogalski, and Drzewiecki for a LOPP competition, it soon won both civilian and military trials and entered large-scale production at DWL and later PWS, with over 550 built. Used extensively in Polish flying schools and air units, it was also exported, with licenses taken by Estonia, Yugoslavia, and Czechoslovakia. The PWS version differed through aerodynamic fairings, revised undercarriage, a PZinż-Junior engine, and radio equipment. A high-wing monoplane with open tandem cockpits, wooden structure, and simple steel-tube gear, it reached 170 km/h and served as a basic trainer and liaison aircraft until 1939.
