The PZL P.42 was a Polish light dive bomber prototype built in 1936-1939, based on the PZL.23A Karaś. It featured experimental design changes including twin vertical tails and a retractable under-fuselage gondola for improved effectiveness.

The PZL.42 was a prototype light dive bomber developed between 1936 and 1939 at the PZL factory in Warsaw, based on the PZL.23A Karaś. Designed by Stanisław Prauss's team, it featured experimental changes including twin vertical tails and a retractable under-fuselage gondola for the bomb aimer. This improved dive control and the rear gunner’s field of fire. The gondola lowered under the aimer's weight and retracted via rubber cords, though the mechanism proved unreliable. First flown in April 1936 at Okęcie, the design was successful and influenced the later PZL.46 Sum. The only PZL.42 built was used for training and destroyed during the Luftwaffe bombing of Dęblin in September 1939.
