Description
The PZL.43 reconnaissance bomber, designed by Stanisław Prauss, was an export variant of the PZL.23 Karaś, featuring a more powerful Gnome-Rhone engine. The PZL.23 prototype first flew in August 1934, with mass production beginning in 1936 at the National Aviation Works in Warsaw. That same year, Bulgaria entered negotiations with Bristol and chose the PZL.43A, which had a redesigned gunner position, elliptical canopy, and relocated machine guns under the fuselage due to engine constraints. These changes led to a modified nose and a new designation—PZL.43. Production of the first 12 units began by late summer 1936, marking a significant upgrade from its predecessor.
