Description
The North American P-51D Mustang was one of the most iconic Allied fighters of World War II, renowned for its range, speed, and versatility. An evolution of earlier Mustang variants, the P-51D featured a bubble canopy for exceptional pilot visibility, improved aerodynamics, and six .50 caliber M2 Browning machine guns. Powered by the Packard-built Rolls-Royce Merlin V-1650 engine, it excelled in long-range bomber escort missions over Europe, protecting B-17s and B-24s deep into Germany. Highly maneuverable and fast, it also performed ground-attack missions, strafing airfields, trains, and convoys. With its combination of firepower, endurance, and agility, the P-51D became a symbol of air superiority and played a decisive role in achieving Allied control of the skies.
