Description
The P-51D-5 was one of the first production blocks of the iconic American P-51D Mustang, introduced in 1944. It was powered by a Packard-built Rolls-Royce Merlin V-1650-7 engine, delivering excellent high-altitude performance. This variant featured the new bubble canopy for improved visibility but lacked the tail fin fillet seen on later D-models. Armed with six .50 caliber machine guns and capable of long-range escort missions, the P-51D-5 played a key role in gaining air superiority over Europe and escorting bombers deep into enemy territory during World War II.
