Description
The Bell P-39Q Airacobra was the final production variant of the innovative American P-39 fighter, widely used during World War II. Retaining the distinctive mid-engine layout and tricycle landing gear, the P-39Q featured improvements in armament, including a 37 mm nose cannon, multiple .50 and .30 caliber machine guns, and enhanced radios and instrumentation. Designed primarily for low- and medium-altitude operations, it offered good maneuverability and durability in combat, particularly for ground-attack missions. While its high-altitude performance remained limited, the P-39Q saw extensive service with the U.S. Army Air Forces and Allied forces, including the Soviet Air Force, where it became highly effective in close support, escort, and interception roles.
