The P-38J Lightning was a World War II American fighter aircraft developed by Lockheed. It featured a distinctive twin-boom design and a central nacelle containing the cockpit and armament. Powered by two turbo-supercharged Allison V-1710 engines, the P-38J improved cooling with redesigned radiators and boosted high-altitude performance. It was fast, heavily armed with four .50 cal machine guns and a 20mm cannon, and capable of long-range missions. Used in both the European and Pacific theaters, the P-38J excelled in roles including escort, ground attack, and reconnaissance.
