Description
The Seversky P-35A was a U.S.-built, single-seat fighter developed in the late 1930s. It featured an all-metal monoplane design with retractable landing gear and an enclosed cockpit—modern features for its time. Powered by a Pratt & Whitney R-1830 radial engine, it could reach speeds of around 290 mph. The P-35A was lightly armed with one .50 cal and one .30 cal machine gun. Although quickly outclassed by newer designs, over 100 P-35As were exported to Sweden, but many were seized by the U.S. after the outbreak of WWII and reassigned to the Philippines. There, they served with the U.S. Army Air Forces during the early months of the war in the Pacific, though they fared poorly against superior Japanese aircraft like the A6M Zero.
