Description
The North American FJ-2 Fury was a carrier-capable version of the F-86 Sabre, developed for the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps in the early 1950s.
Unlike older straight-wing naval fighters, the FJ-2 featured swept wings for better performance against Soviet jets like the MiG-15.
It had folding wings, a longer nose, and reinforced landing gear for carrier operations.
Powered by a General Electric J47 engine, it reached speeds up to 1,086 km/h.
Armament included four Colt Mk 12 cannons mounted in the nose.
Though mainly used by the Marine Corps, the FJ-2 was a key step in transitioning naval aviation to modern, high-speed jet fighters.
It was later improved upon by the FJ-3, which featured a more powerful engine and enhanced capabilities.
