Description
The Ki-43 Hayabusa (Oscar) was the main fighter of the Japanese Army Air Force in WWII. Designed by Hideo Itokawa—later known as the father of Japanese space development—it was highly maneuverable with a good climb rate but lacked armor and was lightly armed. The Ki-43-I, the first production model, had two 12.7mm machine guns and entered service in 1941. It saw action in China, Burma, and New Guinea. Pilots praised its excellent handling, making it a formidable opponent despite its vulnerabilities.
