Description
The world famous P-51 Mustang was one of the best fighter aircraft of the WWII period. The prototype of this fighter, designated as XP-51, designed by corporation "North American", has made the maiden flight at October 26, 1940. The modification P-51B was created at May, 1943. She differed by the installation potent and high altitude Rolls-Royce Merlin engine, made under licence by Packard corporation. The airplane Mustang with this engine became one of the fastest fighters in the world. The airplane had huge range, were well armed. Mustangs, produced at the plant in Dallas, were meant as P-51C. These airplanes were widely used as escort fighters and fighters - bombers on all theatres of war up to the end of the WWII. On the airplanes Mustang fighted such famous pilots - aces, such as D.Gentile (19,83 victories), G.Preddy (25,83), R.Wetmore (21,25), G.England (17,5), D.Bison (17,33). In total during 1943-1944 years was produced 3 738 airplanes P-51B/C.
