In September 1939 at the outbreak of ward world II, the MORANE 406 was numerically the most important French fighter. Handling characteristics were excellent, but the speed not sufficient. Initiated from the 1934 program, the MS 406 was the production version of the MS 405 which flew in August 1935. Only 1,037 MS 406 were built up in France. Some other ones were manufactured after in Switzerland. The MS 406 was used by the Armée de l'Air - Switzerland - Turkey - Finland (as "Super Morane" with a 1100 HP. M. 105 P klimov engine). Engine was a 860 H P. Hispano - Suiza 12 Y 31. And was equipped with a 20 mm. gun into propeller shaft and two mechines guns into wings. Top speed was 480 km/H. (300 mph.)
