Description
The legendary PZL P.11c aircraft is best known as a defender of Polish skies during September 1939. Designed at the Okęcie works a few years after the death of its creator Zygmunt Puławski it was the most advanced development of the P.11 series. Introduced in 1933–1934 the P.11c improved upon earlier variants with a strengthened fuselage redesigned pilot cockpit and a lowered engine installation using the Bristol Mercury engine. The aircraft also received enhanced armament including additional machine guns and improved navigation equipment. Although modern at the time of its design rapid aviation advances soon made it obsolete. Despite this Polish pilots flew the P.11c with great skill and courage against overwhelming odds. Several aircraft survived the war and one preserved example can still be seen today at the Polish Aviation Museum in Kraków.
