Description
The J7W1 Shinden was developed by the Japanese Navy as an interceptor to counter B-29 bombing raids. It featured a revolutionary canard design with wings mounted at the rear and a pusher propeller. The aircraft was designed to climb at a phenomenal rate to reach the altitude of the B-29s quickly, and was armed with four 30mm cannons. Only two prototypes were completed before the end of the war, with the first prototype flying on 3 August 1945, just days before Japan's surrender. The planned production version would have been equipped with a turbojet engine.
