Description
The Mitsubishi A6M Zero A6M3 introduced the 1,130 hp Sakae 21 engine with a two-speed supercharger and larger propeller to improve performance. The Type 32 variant featured clipped wingtips and a revised cowling, boosting speed slightly but reducing climb and turning ability; 343 were built and saw action in the Solomon Islands. The later Type 22 restored folding wingtips and added wing fuel tanks, giving it the longest range of any Zero and better overall performance. About 560 Type 22s were produced. Armament included two 7.7 mm machine guns and two 20 mm cannons.
