Description
The Mitsubishi A6M Zero was Japan’s most famous WWII fighter, entering service in 1940. Designed by Jiro Horikoshi, it combined exceptional range, agility, and firepower, outperforming most fighters of its time. First flown in 1939, the A6M1 prototype impressed with a top speed of 491 km/h. Later models, powered by the Nakajima Sakae engine, boosted speed to over 530 km/h. Early combat trials in China proved its dominance. The improved A6M2b Model 21, equipped for carrier use, led Japan’s early victories at Pearl Harbor and across the Pacific, earning a fearsome reputation in the early war years.
