Description
The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-19PM Farmer-E was an all-weather interceptor developed in the 1950s as a radar-equipped variant of the MiG-19. Powered by twin Tumansky RD-9B turbojets, it was among the first Soviet fighters capable of sustained supersonic flight. The PM version replaced cannon armament with four beam-riding K-5 air-to-air missiles, guided by the RP-2U radar housed in the nose intake. Designed to counter high-altitude bombers, it emphasized speed and climb over maneuverability. The MiG-19PM served with Soviet and Warsaw Pact forces, marking an important step in missile-armed interceptor development.
