Description

The Mikoyan MiG-29AS was a heavily upgraded, NATO-compatible variant of the legendary Soviet-era "Fulcrum" fighter operated by the Slovak Air Force.

  • The Upgrade Program: Between 2005 and 2008, Slovak MiG-29s underwent modernization with Western avionics from companies like BAE Systems and Rockwell Collins to meet NATO standards.

  • New Capabilities: The AS variant received advanced digital glass cockpit displays, modern navigation systems, and an AN/APX-113 Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) system.

  • Legacy: Serving as Slovakia's primary air defense shield for years from Sliač Air Base, the fleet was officially retired in 2022 before being transferred to support Ukraine.

Renowned for its incredible agility and distinctive digital camouflage patterns, the Slovak MiG-29AS bridged the gap between Soviet design and Western interoperability.
