Description
The MiG-21 "Fishbed" was one of the most widely used Soviet jet fighters, serving with the USSR, Warsaw Pact nations, and global allies. Developed in the mid-1950s, its Ye-4 prototype first flew on June 16, 1955. Early models like the MiG-21F, P, and F-13 entered production by the late 1950s. Later variants included the PF, FL, PFM, R, S, N, and PD, with peak production in the 1960s. Third-gen models like the SM, SMT, and bis followed from 1968. Trainer versions (U, UM, US) were also built. Production ended in 1985, with India’s licensed MiG-21bis continuing until 1990. It was the USSR’s first true multi-role supersonic fighter.
