Description
The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21 was a supersonic Soviet fighter widely used around the world and remains in service with several countries. Developed in the 1950s, it evolved from experimental Mach 2 prototypes with swept and delta wings, the delta being selected for production. The first production version, the MiG-21F “Fishbed-C,” flew in 1958. The MiG-21PF added all-weather interception capability with a larger nose housing R1L “Spin-Scan” radar. Armed with a 23 mm GP-9 cannon, air-to-air missiles, and rockets, it could operate effectively in varied conditions. Over 10,000 MiG-21s of multiple variants were built, making it one of the most produced jet fighters in history.
