Description

The Messerschmitt Me 410 “Hornisse” was a German heavy fighter and fast bomber used by the Luftwaffe in WWII. It was developed from the troubled Me 210, whose design began in 1938 as a replacement for the Bf 110. After serious stability issues appeared in service, the aircraft was redesigned and improved, leading to the Me 410. It retained the two-seat layout but used more powerful Daimler-Benz DB 603A engines, greatly improving performance. Deliveries began in December 1942, and about 1,200 aircraft were built by the end of the war. The Me 410A series carried two 7.9 mm MG 17 machine guns, two 20 mm MG 151/20 cannons, and two 13 mm MG 131 guns in remote barbettes. The Me 410A-1 bomber variant could carry up to 1,000 kg of bombs.
